The island of Lanzarote has been officially announced as the host city for the 2027 ITFU World Open Taekwon-Do Championship, one of the most significant martial arts events in the international calendar.
The confirmation was made on November 7th during an official ceremony at the Lanzarote Cabildo Hall, marking a historic moment for both the island and the global Taekwon-Do community.
The championship will bring together over 1,000 competitors from around the world in April 2027, promising a celebration of sport, culture, and unity.
Among those present were Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort, Sports Councillor Juan Monzón, Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque, Arrecife Deputy Mayor Roberto Herbón, and Tías Sports Councillor Ismael Cruz, alongside Carlos Martín, President of the Federación Internacional de Taekwondo España (FITE).
“The selection of Lanzarote reflects the island’s commitment to sports, organization, and hospitality,” said President Betancort, highlighting the event’s economic and tourism benefits.
Councillor Juan Monzón noted the international relevance of the championship, emphasizing that it strengthens Lanzarote’s role as a leading destination for sports tourism.
Carlos Martín, President of FITE and ITFU representative, praised Lanzarote’s “professional organization and top-quality sports facilities” as key factors in the island’s selection.
Parallel activities will take place across the municipalities of Arrecife, Tías, and Teguise, offering athletes and visitors opportunities to explore Lanzarote’s landscapes and cultural heritage.
The event will be organized by FITE, ITF Union, the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote, Club Tanga (led by Francisco Ramírez), institutional advisor Antonio Leal, and local municipalities.
The 2027 ITFU World Championship will mark a new milestone in Taekwon-Do history, showcasing the values of unity, excellence, and international cooperation that define the ITFU spirit.
